Caspar Richter conductor

 

Caspar Richter was born in 1944 in Lübeck as a son of a Protestant priest. After humanistic school leaving exam he decided to study organ and piano. His music education was successfully completed at Conservatory in Hamburg in the departments of conducting, piano and percussions.

 

Caspar Richter started his career in the 1969 when he joined the Deutsche Oper in Berlin as co-tutor and assistant of Lorin Maazel. Three years later Deutsche Oper in Berlin offered him a position of a music director, where he worked until 1973. In 1972 he was invited to cooperate with the RIAS Orchestra Berlin as a chief conductor and at the same time he held a position of a tutor at the conservatory. In 1982 Caspar Richter acted as music director of the Berlin Festival.

 

Since the beginning of his career Caspar Richter focuses on performing new versions of many operettas of J. Offenbach and has been a guest conductor of excellent orchestras such as Berlin Philharmonic, Radio Symphonic Orchestras in Berlin, Stuttgart, Frankfurt and Hamburg, etc..

 

In 1982 started his Vienna carrier, where he first acted as a guest conductor. Since the year 1983 he has been permanently employed as a conductor by the Staatsoper in Vienna where he also cooperated with Lorin Maazel. Four years later he became a music director of the Vienna United Stages; in this function he arranges debut performances and world premieres of all known musicals (Chorus Line, Chicago, Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, The Beauty and the Beast, Jekyll and Hyde, Elizabeth, Mozart and Rebecca).

 

Since 1991 Caspar Richter has been working as the leading permanent guest conductor of the Brno Philharmonic, where he has been assigned honorary permanent conductor in 2002 (cycles: Mahler's Symphonies, Bernstein Symphonies, Alban Berg, W.A. Mozart and B. Martinu). In 1997 he conducted the Czech premiere of Bernstein's MASS (his first performance of Bernstein's MASS was performed in Berlin in 1982) in cooperation with Brno Philharmonic.

 

Caspar Richter appeared at numerous Czech festivals such as the Prague Spring, Janacek's May in Ostrava and the Smetana Festival in Litomysl, is regularly invited to perform at many important international music festivals and is a permanent guest conductor of excellent music bodies. To name just a few: Staatsoper in Dresden, Orchestre National de France and the Komische Oper in Berlin. His work has been awarded many gold and platinum CDs and prizes for the best musicals´recordings.

 

His last engagements include premieres of the musical "Rebecca" (world premiere after the novel of Daphne de Maurier) and "Idomeneo" at the National Theatre in Brno (in cooperation with the National Theatre Brno, 2006).
