Leo Svárovský conductor
Leoš Svárovský (1961) studied flute at the Prague Conservatoire and conducting at the Academy of Music in Prague, with the renowned professor Václav Neumann. He started his career in the National Theatre in Prague as an assistant of Zdeněk Košler. In 1991 he was invited by Herbert von Karajan Foundation to cooperate with George Solti, Claudio Abbado and the Vienna Philharmonic at „Sommerspiele Salzburg".
Since 2000 he has been teaching at the department of conducting at the Academy of Musical Arts in Prague.
Since the beginning of his career he has been head conductor of excellent Czech and Slovak orchestras (1985-87 Prague Chamber Opera, 1991-93 Janáček's Philharmonic Ostrava, 1991-95 State Philharmonic Brno; 1995-2000 Sinfonietta, Žilina).
He also acted as chief conductor of the Prague National Theatre Ballet Orchestra (2001-6/2002) and a permanent guest conductor of the Slovak Philharmonic (2001-6/2002).
He has been cooperating with the Czech Philharmonic since 2001. In February 2006 he conducted a demanding program of Czech Philharmonic abonnement concerts in Rudolfinum hall with great success (E. Suchoň: Balladic Suite, Op. 9, Z. Lukáš: Violoncello Concerto, S. Prokofiev: Symphony No. 6). His cooperation with our first orchestra is going to continue during the abonnement season 2006-07.
Currently he acts as chief conductor of Pardubice Chamber Philharmonic (since 1997) and honorary member of Brno Philharmonic. In 2003-2005 he also acted as artistic director and chief conductor of Prague State Opera.
His last engagements include premieres in the Prague State Opera season 2004/05 Lucia di Lammermoor by Donizetti, Cinderella by Prokofiev and Rusalka by Dvořák. These were preceded by Katya Kabanova (1996) and Faust by Gounod (1997) in the Prague State Opera and ballet premiere of Raymonda by Glazunov at the National Theatre.
Leoš Svárovský also cooperated with many excellent orchestras. To name just a few: Orchestre de Pays de la Lorraine Metz, Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg, Bach Collegium München, Beethoven Orchester Bonn, Residentie Orkest den Haag, RTL Symphony Orchestra Luxembourg, Bruckner Orchester Linz, Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, Shanghai Radio Symphony Orchestra, Radio Symphonie Orkest Utrecht, The Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Presidential Symphony Orchestra Ankara, Staatskapelle Dresden and many others.
Leoš Svárovský is regularly invited to perform at many important music festivals in the Czech Republic (Smetana's Litomyšl, Prague Spring, Moravian Autumn, Easter Festival of Sacred Music, Janáček's May, Prague Autumn and Emmy Destinn Music Festival in České Budějovice), as well as abroad (Festspiele Europäische Wochen Passau, George Enescu Festival Bucharest, Colorado Music Festival, Settimane Musicali di Ascona and many others).
He also cooperated with many important soloists, including R. Firkušný, J. Suk, V. Hudeček, I. Ardašev, P. Šporcl, V. Pikajzen, D. Geringas, A. Noras, M. Fedotov, C. Ortiz, D. Varjon, H. Hardenberger D. Damrau, I. Oistrach, S. Vladar, M. Gauci, K. Ricciarelli, K. Rydl, S. Larin, N. Martinucci, E. Randová, D. Pecková, L. Orgonášová, Sumi Jo, Ch. Margiono, R. Buchbinder, S. Kovatschewitch, A. Kontarski, L. Josephowitsch, X. de Maestre, F. Say, S. Jaffé, G.Opitz, U.Ughi and many others.
Most recordings by Leoš Svárovský were carried out by Supraphon Records but he also cooperated with other significant recording companies, such as Newport Classic, New Millennium Records BBC and ULTRAPHON ArcoDiva. Both of his recordings of premiered unknown works by Janáček for Supraphon Records (CDs Janáček Unknown I and II) and his recording of Janáček's Glagolitic Mass, Dvořák's Stabat Mater and Massenet's Mary Magdalene received critical acclaim.
In June 2004 he conducted Dvořák's Requiem at the Musica Sacra Festival in Nuremberg and in autumn 2004 he toured with Brno Philharmonic through six Asian capitals on the Toyota tour (Singapore, Taipei - Taiwan, Saigon - Vietnam, Soul - South Korea, Hong-Kong, Manila - Philippines). In 2005 he cooperated among others with Stuttgart Philharmonic, New Russian Orchestra in Moscow and Sinfonieorchester Stadttheater Aachen. He experienced great success with his concerts with Staatskapelle Dresden in March 2005 when he stepped in for indisposed Sir J. E. Gardiner, with Brno Philharmonic and Czech Philharmonic Choir of Brno at the Rheingau Festival in August 2005 with Dvořák's Requiem and New-Year's concerts with Slovak Philharmonic.
In May and June 2006 Leoš Svárovský conducted a series of ballet performances of Prague State Opera in Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania, presenting Prokofiev's Cinderella.
In the 2007/08 season he cooperated with National Orchestra of Malta and Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra. Our first Czech orchestra, Czech Philharmonic, conducted Leoš Svárovský again in February 2006 and October 2007 in Rudolfinum. With this orchestra followed tour of USA.
Also collaboration with outstanding Czech Philharmonic Choir of Brno still increases good reputation of these artists as well as Czech culture in general.
